Morning Magic

warm lemon water

Want to make mornings more enjoyable? Create habitual rituals that make you feel good, look better and start your day off right. You deserve this! Here are a few ideas to get you started. My suggestion, choose one or two at a time. Force yourself at first to stick to it, and you will find some things work for you and some don't.

*Warm lemon water. My first, biggest suggestion, drink warm water with a half squeezed organic lemon in it. I know if you are a coffee drinker like me this is hard at first but worth it. It wakes up the body by revving up our digestion, hydrating our body and adding needed vitamins, minerals and trace elements like a natural gatorade.

*Meditating, praying, setting intentions or finding something to be thankful for each morning. All these are great for starting the day off right! Pick one or all, time it will take you is from a minute to as long as you would like. Most if not all spiritual leaders seem to start their day with prayers and/or meditation, and many motivational coaches advise keeping a journal bedside to set intentions and or find things to be thankful for before even getting out of bed. Increased focus and peace will come from practicing these rtuals.

*Move. Spend time stretching, walking, dancing, any form of movement that will get your whole body to wake up. It can be an exercise class at the gym or you rolling around on the bedroom floor or taking an early morning walk. Breathe deep, move big and notice the difference in how you feel. The time it takes ranges from minutes to as long as you would like.

*Oil Pull. This is when you put coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for a bit before spitting it out. I use a small spoonful of organic coconut oil and swish it around in my mouth for 20 minutes while I do something else like cleaning the kitchen, taking a shower, folding clothes. I pick a mindless activity to make the time fly by. The mouth is where we take in so much and is the first step to our digestive system, the actual fuel process to our being. Many benefits, research for more info on oil pulling if this interests you. I do it because it makes my mouth feel clean, my teeth whiter, my skin clearer, something is definitely working.

*Self massage, in Ayurveda it is called Abhyanga. I prefer coconut but any good, organic oil will do. I also add a few drops of essential oil. Give yourself a self massage as you moisturize. Start with your feet and work up the legs to torso, than rub hands in to torso, all strokes working towards the heart. Work into all the muscles, take extra care through joints and where you find soreness. Breathe deep as you do this and relax. It takes about 3-5 minutes but even a quick minute will do wonders. You can shower after.

These are just a few suggestions, great rituals to become habitual, things I can't live without. Try them out, don't give up on the ones that feel good. You deserve all of these rituals to feel peaceful and happy. Start now, plan for your morning ritual and make it habitual.
